Prof. Martin Barker

Prof. Martin Barker Martin Barker is Professor of Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University. He has been researching both comic book and film audiences for more than 20 years. He is the author of a number of books including the co-authored Knowing Audiences: Judge Dredd, its Friends, Fans and Foes (1998), The Crash Controversy: Censorship Campaigns and Film Reception (2001), and Watching the Lord of the Rings: Tolkien's World Audiences (2007). He was director of the international Lord of the Rings audience project (2003-4) and of a more recent (2006) project on behalf of the British Board of Film Classification into audience responses to sexual violence on screen.

Dr. Emily Munro

Dr. Emily Munro Emily Munro has been Head of Learning at Glasgow Film Theatre since July 2007. She has worked as a freelance writer and script consultant and has been involved with the European Think Tank on Film Policy. Emily is on the editorial board of the Scottish arts and politics magazine The Drouth and holds a PhD in film studies from the University of Glasgow.

Dr. Sean Perkins

Dr. Sean Perkins Sean Perkins has been Research Executive at the UK Film Council since 2001. His research interests include UK and global theatrical markets, UK rental and retail video markets, film on television, the emerging online market for film and film audiences. He has also conducted research into the impact of local cinema and the development of avid cinemagoers. Previously, Sean was Research Associate at the Sir Norman Chester Centre for Football Research, University of Leicester, working on national fan surveys for the FA Premier League and Football League and a series of research projects for the national Football Task Force (including the impact of the new economics of football and the role of football in the community). In 1997 he co-authored the first national guide to facilities for disabled football fans and in the same year was awarded a PhD in Geography from the University of Wales, Swansea.

Prof. Robin MacPherson

Robin MacPherson is Director of the Screen Academy Scotland and a Senior Lecturer in Napier University’s School of Creative Industries. The Screen Academy Scotland, a Skillset Screen Academy, is a collaboration between Napier and Edinburgh College of Art, supported by the Scottish Government through Scottish Screen and the Scottish Funding Council and by Skillset (the UK Sector Skills Council for Creative Media) as one of six UK centres of excellence in film practice education.

Robin has been a film and television producer since 1989 and has produced a wide range of documentary, current affairs and drama for BBC, Channel 4 and ITV as well as international broadcasters. He received a UK BAFTA nomination in 1996 for his first drama production and a Scottish BAFTA nomination in 2004 for his most recent documentary, both of which were produced through his company, Asylum Pictures, established in 1997. From 1999 to 2002 he was in charge of Script and Project Development for the national screen agency, Scottish Screen.
